Snow-Ice Continuous Reflectance Monitor

The tools developed by CNR-IIA, allows measuring the spectral ranges within visible and near-IR wavelength reflectance and the acquisition of NIR-GB images of the snow cover. These measures can  offer a description of micro-physics features of snow grains, of interstitial liquid water and the specific surface area.

All these information are optimal descriptors about the metamorphism state of the snow cover, being thus a tracker to identify the beginning and the duration of the melting season. The contextual acquisition and analysis of NIR-GB images of snow cover allowed to semi-automatically evaluate the roughness providing an additional input for the interpretation of the optical behaviour of snow.
